Air Force Armament Museum
The Air Force Armament Museum is a military aviation museum located adjacent to the Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. The museum displays more than 1,500 artifacts from the World War I era to modern times. It also features an interactive flight simulator and a gift shop. It is the only museum in the United States dedicated to air force armament. Visiting the museum will provide a unique and fascinating insight into the history of the Air Force.
The Air Force Armament Museum is an excellent place to learn about the history of the Air Force. During the day, the museum is open to the public and is free. During the week, the museum holds several special events related to the military. Change of Command ceremonies are frequently held there. In fact, over 280 events are held there each year. While admission to the museum is free, donations are welcome.
The museum contains more than 100 years of Air Force Armament. It has been home to numerous military ceremonies and has an excellent collection of artifacts. The museum is the only museum dedicated to the Air Force’s collection of munitions. You can see everything from a modern fighter jet to a World War I bomber.
The museum also features a wide variety of historical aircraft and weapons. Visitors can see the AMRAAM, the GBU-28 bunker buster, and other airborne weapons. The Tomahawk, Falcons, and Hound Dog series of aircraft are also on display. The GBU-43 MOAB, or Massive Ordnance Air Blast, is another notable display.
The McKinley Climatic Laboratory was completed in 1947 as a result of lessons learned during World War II. Its mission was to test aircraft, armament systems, and even people in extreme conditions. The facility can simulate temperatures up to seventy degrees below zero and simulate rain, snow, fog, and dust conditions. It has expanded significantly since then through a $75 million expansion in the mid-1990s.
The museum also houses a replica of a V-1 missile site, which was used by the Germans in their bombing campaign on the United Kingdom. During World War II, the American military developed tactics to destroy the V-1 rockets in the country. It also developed the MOAB bomb, which was the single largest precision-guided conventional bomb to date.
Among the aircraft on display is a North American/Cavalier F-51D Mustang. This remanufactured P-51D-5-NA was operated at Fort Rucker Air Force Base in Alabama. It was then transferred to the museum in 1976, when it was painted in the Army’s brown and white color scheme.
