Where is Eglin Village?

Eglin Village is a small coastal suburb located about five miles (8 km) north of the city of Valparaiso, in the U.S. state of Florida. It is surrounded by natural attractions such as the Indian Passages, the Big East Channel, and the Choctawhatchee Bay. It is a quieter alternative to nearby Port Canaveral, which is better known as a tourist hub. The Eglin family settled in the area in the early 1920s, bringing the first citrus groves, cattle, and citrus trees from their native Australia. The family established Eglin Air Force Base nearby in the 1940s when citrus groves turned out to be a poor bet for agriculture due to the presence of the military base nearby. The family subsequently abandoned the citrus groves to focus on citrus farming and walnut production. In the 1960s, Eglin Village became a popular weekend getaway for military personnel and their families.
