Destin 5

While Destin is a beautiful beach town, there’s more to this destination than just beaches. The city has an incredible history. The town was once home to Al Capone. Today, Destin is home to one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and the Blackwater River is a beautiful highway through its longleaf pine/wiregrass ecosystem. You can explore this park by canoe, or camp in the area’s parks.

The Mid-Bay Bridge is a 141-span, 3.6-mile toll bridge that connects U.S. Highway 98 in Destin to State Road 20 in Niceville. The bridge generally runs north-south. Its approaches and roadway are marked with the State Road 293 shield.

US 98 was established in 1933 and runs eastward across the Florida Peninsula and west into Mississippi. This route hugs much of the Gulf Coast between Mobile, Alabama and Crystal River, Florida. From the Alabama-Florida state line, it closely follows the coast to St. Marks. US 98 is marked as an east-west road from Perry, Florida to the Florida peninsula and back east-west along the lakeshore. Take a look at this article.

The Florida Department of Transportation was scheduled to begin resurfacing Airport Road in Destin on Wednesday, but the weather and staffing issues have forced the project to be postponed. Crews are expected to attempt to finish the paving work on Friday. In the best case scenario, workers will be able to complete the entire paving work in a single day. However, expect lane closures on Airport Road on Friday between Quail Circle and Mattie Kelly Boulevard.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) oversees transportation and safety on the state’s roads. Its funding also helps two major transit authorities. These authorities provide a variety of services to residents and tourists in the Panhandle. In addition to roads, FDOT funds several airports and rail lines. View the next article here.
